I was at a Rite-Aid to pick up some toiletries when I noticed the new displays for Maybelline Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2012 Collection.
I wanted to take pictures but I left my phone in the car because it was supposed to be just a quick run (right!). Anyways, will try to go back to take pics and hopefully the display is still up.
I gravitated towards the Color Tattoos (also got the Color Sensational lipsticks, for pics and swatches click HERE). I had previously bought four shades from the permanent lineup and didn’t really like the colors and the texture. This time with colors like Mossy Green and Rich Mahogany, I was intrigued. So here we go.
According to Maybelline’s website,

FOR BEST RESULTS
High impact look:
Illuminate. With fingertips, sweep all over eye from inner corner and work outwards. For added drama, darken as desired.
For the swatches, I used my finger to apply the shadows. Top swatch would be one swipe from the pot and the bottom would be one swipe blended out.
100 Barely Beige
Barely Beige is a wonderful metallic light beige. I could see this as a wonderful highlight for the inner corner of the eyes. It was creamy and easy to blend. It achieved an even finish after blending it out.
200 Mossy Green
Mossy Green is best described as that…mossy green. I could see tiny gold flecks (is that how one calls it?) making this slightly shimmery. Upon first swipe I could really tell it will be a difficult one to work with. As you can see on the swatch photo below, the top swatch is patch-y. It is creamy but can prove difficult to blend and sheer out. It can be done with a lot of luck and patience. I love the color though so I will work with it. I think this will work the best as a base shadow.
300 Gold Shimmer
I don’t like gold, especially yellow gold, not in jewelry, not in makeup or anything for that matter (unless it’s free 🙂 ). So I bought this shade to give it a chance and I’m glad I did. It is a warm gold that’s not metallic or shimmery. I have to say it has a slight sheen just enough to make it interesting, not flat. It is creamy, easily blended out in an even manner. I love this one. Hopefully it looks just as good on my arm as it is on my eye.
400 Rich Mahogany
Rich Mahogany is kind of like Mossy Green. It is creamy and when applied with just one swipe of the finger it is truly a rich wonderful purplish brown. When blended out you can tell it’s kind of dry. It still applies unevenly although slightly better than Mossy Green. Again, I love the color so I will give it a chance and work with it. Best used as a base shadow.
Overall, it is a good collection. Mossy Green and Rich Mahogany has blend ability flaws and patch-y pigmentation however it’s workable. I’m glad I gave them a chance because I feel that the colors are too beautiful to pass up.
It is now available at Rite-Aid, CVS and Walgreens. I bought mine at Rite-Aid for US$6.69 and from the picture above, it is US$7.79 at Walgreens.
What do you think? Is it a yay or a nay?
