I don’t indulge much in MAC’s limited edition offerings but I looked forward to this collection because if there’s one person I would love to copy is Carine Roitfeld’s iconic smokey eyes. Not that I can do a full smokey eye (seriously, I can’t). First, I need practice. Second, my waterline is extremely sensitive so I have to research the best way to do a smokey eye without having a full-blown waterworks in my eye.
According to the MAC website…
A compact that showcases Carine Roitfeld’s sophisticated and seductive smoky eye and rouged cheek. Features: Dew, “Camo,” Bad Lieutenant and Carbon Eye Shadows, and Cremeblend Blush in Bootcamp Bronze. Limited edition.
Packaging | Very elegant packaging on a black on black box which is carried through everywhere except the back of the palette where the printed text is in white. I adore this type of packaging style but annoys the blogger in me because I’m trying to get an image of the ingredient list and I’ve given up because it is printed on a black cardboard with black print as well much like the back and front of the box. And MAC doesn’t have ingredient lists on their website so I am so sorry for not providing you the ingredient list for this one. Anyways, the palette itself is matte black with Carine Roitfeld’s initials in glossy black. As you open up the cover, it reveals a mirror and four shadows which slide to one side to reveal the blush underneath. Love it!
Colors and Texture | Colors in this palette are all very wearable and would go from day to night. Cremeblend blush in Bootcamp Bronze is a soft sheer chestnut. Not a shade I would wear. The texture is quite nice. Easy to blend. Top left is Dew (Veluxe Pearl), a soft creamy beige. Perfect for highlighting the brow bone and the inner corners. Top right is Camo (Satin), a muted grayish taupe. I love the color and love the texture. I’m one of them taupe-loving ladies so this shade is love for me. Bottom left is Bad Lieutenant (Matte), a blackened deep brown. Now here comes my problem. This particular matte eyeshadow is quite powdery and I have a little difficulty working with it. Blending can be done, it may take a while but it can be done. Bottom right is Carbon (Matte), an intense black. To me, it is not quite that intense really. Swatching it is difficult as it hard to achieve an even intense swatch. It is powdery. Smudging it on the lash line is not a problem but blending it anywhere else can be a challenge. Again, can be done but will take some work.
Availability | Limited Edition. US$44 anywhere MAC is sold. Some MAC counters still have it and it still available at their website.
FOTD| I did a look that’s very day appropriate. I used Carbon, smudged on top of Le Metier de Beaute Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Noir. I didn’t use the creme blend blush as I think I would really look odd with that color on my cheeks.
